Squad log 8: 4-10-2025

This week, Flying Squads opted for another slow(ish) day, spending much of the morning lounging in the teen section of the library. Since that section of the library is reserved only for youth, the instigators spent the morning talking and hanging out at one of the booths near a window overlooking downtown while the whole squad hung out till lunchtime.

Sometime after noon, we agreed it was time to head out to find our favorite lunch spot and show a couple of our new flyers around! On the way, we stopped at Yummi Joy in search of more Dubai chocolate! Unfortunately, they were all out, but one instigator chatted with the owner who recognized them. They talked with them about the history of Austin’s original, ToyJoy and even comped some other candy for one of our flyers due to a technical issue with their register.

We continued on our walk and came across a pair of mounted patrols on Congress. The flyers lined up with other pedestrians to pet the beautiful horses. One of our young people is a previous horse rider and was reminiscing on the feeling of those rides. We finally made it to a couple of lunch spots, and those who chose to purchase lunch navigated ordering and paying for their food while the instigators hung back, something we practice a lot during Squad days.

Lunch was laid back and quiet as we enjoyed existing in the city on a warm spring day. Our next stop was CVS, this one a uniquely architected, two-story shop in true inner city fashion. We spent long minutes browsing the aisles, searching for specific snack items and making notes on which makeup to save up for and purchase later. After a couple of purchases, it was time to head back to our designated parting spot. These afternoons just FLY!
