Squad Log 9: 4-17-2025

Our ninth flight began in a new part of the city— where there is lots of foot traffic, plenty of places to find things to eat and drink from kebab shops, and Korean barbecue to juice bars and boba shops. We set out on a quest for a geocache that was several blocks from our starting point. Our geocache was located in a historic home with a haunting tale… So we read all our geocache clues along our walk, eager to get to a creepy place to take a peek around and snap some photos.

We spent a while there once we arrived, we searched all over for the tiny cache until we finally found a hint that it was magnetic! This narrowed our search down to only places where it could be hidden tucked behind metal. Once we found the cache, we looked through all of the contents and left something of our own before placing it back in its VERY good hiding space.

We hung around the steps of The Littlefield House having conversation about a variety of topics while we waited for a new person to join us.

This gave one flyer an opportunity to asses a shoe/heel chaffing situation and map out where to find larger bandages than we had on hand. A couple of others were working on some digital art under a tree. Once our new flyer met up with us, we headed off to a pharmacy on Guadalupe to secure the bandages and fuel up on some cold drinks.

We made our way down Guadalupe discussing what we were going to do for lunch. The entire group decided fried chicken was the name of the game!

After lunch, we made our way to the capital mall and cross the street to hang in the shady Blanton museum plaza. We decided that we were going to stay put a while. We played games, made micro films, lounged and read or listen to music.

Our squad always has the sounds of a skateboard nearby (because one of our flyers skates more than walks) and this time, visitors to Austin noticed them. They’d been watching them in cycles of skating and resting and asked if they could get some action shots with their camera.

We stayed a long while and to the instigators surprise… not one of us wanted to leave except to find a toilet. Until it was time to walk back to our parting spot and meet parents and caregivers! We have some ideas about how to make the most of our next flight, we quickly discussed them before all going separate ways — until next time!
